ADSF President Suchai Pianpatanungkun opened the Meeting and welcomed 13 Members and 4 Provisional Members representing Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Korea, China, Chinese Taipei and Japan. As more than half of the Members were present, the General Meeting was quorat and duly constituted.
As Treasurer of ADSF, Mr. Kiyotaka Uzaki gave the financial report. A settlement of accounts report in 1999 and a budget for 2000 were approved.
Members had an opportunity to deliver reports on their Associations.
Mr. Stanley Au reported for Hong Kong. Certain difficulties led the meeting to agree that invitations to competitions in Asiua should henceforth be confirmed through every IDSF Member from the next time.
Mr. Royce Yeh reported for Chinese Taipei, announcing the postponement of dates due to the tragic earthquake in Taiwan as follows:
The Asia Pacific Open Competitions to December 18th, 1999, The ADSF Asian Open Competition and Asian Ten Dance Championships to December 19th, 1999.
Mr Keiji Ukai, Member of the IDSF Presidium, reported for Japan. He spoke about the IDSF World Standard Championships held last year in Japan and requested co-operation to the Tokyo International Open, to be held February 20th, 2000.
Mrs. Becky Garcia reported that DanceSport is developing very quickly in the Phillipines. In the recently concluded 3rd National DanceSport Championships 80 couples participated, compared to the 30 couples that competed last year, more than double. The number of Youth competitors has also increased. "We owe this to the continuos promotion that the council has done: conducting workshops in the provinces. We have co-operated with Jollibee Corporation to train the members of the Super Kids Club every weekend. We have organised a competition for them with representatives from different areas of Metro Manila and these winners competed in the National Championship.
Our 3rd National Championship was very successful and we look forward to bid to host the Asia Pacific DanceSport Championships. Meanwhile we have several activities lined up before the end of the year. We have two more workshops and regional competitions by November and December in the provinces".
Mrs. Garcia has been appointed by Philippine Olympic Committee as Chairman of the Education and Culture Commission, strengthening the relationship of the Council with the National Olympic Committee. Likewise, aside from a hosting a weekly DanceSport TV Program she is now hosting a two-hour weekly radio program entitled "DanceSport with Becky".
We appreciate the co-operation we have from all of our other member countries.
The Report of the ADSF coaches´ lecture meeting which was held in Singapore recently was very favourable. On behalf of Mr. Shawn Tay President Suchai Pianpatanungkun reported that the participation was great and the event very successful. The next lecture is planed for the Tokyo International Open next February. In the meantime 72 members are licensed. The license cards will be issued immediately and send to each National Member for distribution.
The 7th Asian Pacific Championships 2000 are to be held on November 17/18th in Hong Kong. The 5th Asian Championships are to be held on September 3rd, 2000 in Japan.
Mr. Woo Bon Yu reported about the Asian Games 2002 in Pusan. Mr. Bee Jey Chin, Sub Chairman of the Korean Olympic Committee, had taken over the Presidency of the GAASF. The Asia Indoor Championships in 2003 are being planed with the sponsorship of the Olympic Committee of Asia.
Mr. Keiji Ukai, Member IDSF Presidium and TD of AKITA, reported on the World Games 2001 in Akita, scheduled for August 16-26, 2001. DanceSport will be in the program on August 25 to 26th.
Mrs. Feng Be Hua reported on the 2nd Asian Sport Festival which will be held in August in 2000 or 2001. The year will be decided by the end of 1999.
Other Business:
ADSF President Suchai Pianpatanungkun retired. The General Meeting unanimously elected Mr. Keiji Ukai of Japan as new President, who will serve until the next annual General Meeting.
