IDSF President in Rome
On the initiative of the National Olympic Committee of Italy, NOCI, a meeting of all rival DanceSport bodies of Italy was convened on December 1, 1999, to Rome. As you probably know, the NOCI took over the mandate, to try to unify all the existing DanceSport groups of Italy into one sole DanceSport Federation, recognised by the NOCI and the IDSF/IOC.

Mrs. Novella Calligaris, a former Olympic Gold Medal winner in swimming, as a NOCI-appointed Commissioner for DanceSport opened and welcomed over 300 delegates.

15 Speakers were invited to give an overall picture on different subjects about the establishing of a new National Sports Federation.

Invited as the President of the IDSF, I had the opportunity to present our ideas and goals for the future of the IDSF and its 76 Member Federations. I encouraged everybody to work together for a new future of DanceSport in Italy. My speech was very well received.

I can only hope, that the Italian Dancers will take this great opportunity - initiated and supported by the NOCI - to establish a new governing body for DanceSport in Italy. My best wishes to Mrs. Novella Calligaris.

Next day I had an appointment for a courtesy call with the President of the NOCI, Dr. Giovanni Petrucci. We exchanged our views about DanceSport affairs and discussed IDSF´s application for inclusion as an Olympic Sport. He expressed his strong support for DanceSport, knowing that Italy nowadays is one of the leading DanceSport Nations.
