IDSF Press Release 1e/97

Asia Go Ahead

Asia is on the Way" was the deadline in Edition Nr, 1470 of Dance News in the IDSF column-in on the report of the "1, Asian Dancesport Meeting" in Taipei. On November 2nd the formal basis for the new regional subdivision of IDSF was cemented. Vince Bain/Sydney, Commissioner for the preparation of the Constitutional Meeting presented a draft for a statute which was unanimously accepted by the delegates of China, Hong Kong, Korea. Japan. Malaysia. the Philippines, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.

The "Dance Sport Council of the Philippines" entered IDSF shortly before as 13th member of the Asian Region and was immediately invited to Seoul, The presence of the delegates of the PR China must be especially emphasised. The appeal to join the building of the "Dance Sport house" in Asia was heard. There was no more fear of contact The delight about the Chinese presence was unanimous.

According to the statute there is a Presidium to which belongs an "Executive Committee" and one representative each of the Member Associations. The carefully and with instinct prepared proposal for the election into the EC was accepted unanimously. Elected were:

President: Suchai Pianpatanangkun, Thailand
Vice-President: Mrs. CY Chin, Malaysia
Executive Vice-President: Mrs. Prof. Josefina V, Bauzon
Generals Secretary: Royce Yeh, Chinese Taipei
Treasurer: Mr. Kiyotaki Uzaki
Sports Director: Mrs. Feng Bihua, China

As speciality the Vice-President - he or she - is always for the one special year the representative of the country in which the Asian Dance Sport Championships take place. An interesting rule in the statute, which should underline the function of the vice-president in outside affairs.

In the name the word "Council" was replaced by "Federation". With the new name Asian Dance Sport Federation the relation with IDSF was underlined - especially considering the abbreviation ADSF

President Suchai Pianpatanangkun immediately called his Presidium in order to shift the points for a closed and harmonious co-operation. You clearly could feel a mood of awaking and the will of a common solving the pending problems.

It is a great merit of the initiators, amongst which we find Vince Bain and IDSF President Member Tony Tilenni, to waken a common sense within the Asian Associations under the leadership of IDSF. An initiating factor was amongst others the existence of an Asian Olympic Committee. The new Federation immediately applied for recognition. IDSF General Secretary Rudi Hubert addressed the delegates that now they would be at their own and that the IDSF Presidium would not interface. He stressed that the executive according to IDSF Statute is still with IDSF. Proposals for organisators of an Asian Championship are welcome, but have to be decided officially by the IDSF Presidium. The echo: Of course! Within Asia - together with the new Member Philippines which already keeps the NOC recognition now 13 IDSF Members are gathered. This means 20% of the 65 IDSF Members. The resources are surely unevenly spread - in Europe it is alike - but the are there. The new Federation has started to work. "Asia was about to start" - now it must be read: "Asia go ahead!"
