IDSF President Detlef Hegemann retires on his 70th Birthday
On the occasion of his 70th Birthday, IDSF President Detlef Hegemann had invited the Members of the Joint Committee IDSF/WD&DSC for a Meeting to discuss the WD&DSC application for the Associate Membership of WD&DSC within the IDSF. After an intensive discussion on the future of DanceSport a Memorandum of Agreement was signed by IDSF President Detlef Hegemann and WD&DSC President Robin Short. Details will be published.
Furthermore a Meeting of the IDSF Presidium took place which made important decisions to set the aims for further development of DanceSport in respect to a possible future participation in the Olympics.
On the background of the positive and leading decisions of those Meetings and the success and achievements of a 33 years Presidency of the World Body of the Amateur DanceSport Athletes, President Detlef Hegemann announced his retirement from the IDSF Presidency. The standing Ovations of the IDSF Presidium Members in favour of Detlef Hegemanns outstanding Presidency could not change his mind.
It is Detlef Hegemannīs hand which has guided the Federation from obscurity to Olympic Recognition and his departure marks the end of an era. The IDSF Presidium will honour Detlef Hegemanns merits at an adequate event. The remainder of Mr. Hegemannīs term as President will be filled by Vice President Peter Pover until the IDSF Annual Meeting 1998.
